Right, I agree to that. I just noticed (and tweeted) that Facebook just opened battles on multiple fronts with picture-sharing, link-sharing and content-generating portals etc. All of those categories have their own champs. And I agree with you, Facebook status should not become the major focus on that application. Facebook surely are looking to bite in to twitter somewhat with their live news feeds and all. But in my opinion, this is one battle they'd have a hard time fighting. The simplicity/beauty of Twitter is a killer.

There WAS no point in comparing. But ever since Facebook decided to make their entire website STATUS based, like Twitter, then we, the users, must obviously compare. But yes, I'm less likely to un-friend (unfollow on Twitter) someone on Facebook just because they post up lyrics to a new hip-hop song or random remarks about the shoes they're wearing. I also post random status updates on Facebook so I'm no less like the buffoon-looking fellow on the right. In the earlier version of Facebook the status seemed to compliment your profile, it wasn't THE PROFILE. In fact, I think the status was the least important thing cause it took the Facebook people SO LONG to remove the "is." Now Facebook is trying to be Twitter all the while people are keeping the same context of their statuses. So, I drew this to compare why Facebook's new status-oriented design is a big misstep, imho.

I guess, there's no point in comparing. On Facebook, I have more personalized statuses - I have my real friends and family there. I can say just about anything (mostly the humor and interests would be common). What happens at Facebook, stays at Facebook.

On Twitter, I don't personally know almost 80% of the people that are following me! So I'm more careful to write only the stuff I'd like to 'represent' me out there. Some are business people I'd like to impress for business networking, some are my potential clients, some are competitors, some are just random folks that are following me, don't know for what reason. And additionally, anyone can open up my twitter page and see what I've been up to.

No comparison!

Definitely guilty of that myself. It seems so natural on Facebook to just type in the lyrics to the song I'm currently listening to.
